The Combination of Sailing Races and Diving Watch

Since 1932, Omega has served as the official timekeeper of the Olympic Games, a role it has held for 26 editions of the Games. Beyond releasing various commemorative timepieces, Omega has continuously made technological breakthroughs in timing for athletic competitions. Of course, Omega's presence extends far beyond the Olympics, appearing in track and field, swimming, sailing, and even golf.

In 2024, Omega secured the official timekeeping role for two of the world's most influential traditional sporting events: the Olympic Games and the America's Cup sailing race, and has released several commemorative watches for each. For the 37th America's Cup, one of the world's most prestigious and oldest international competitions, Omega launched three special timepieces. The Seamaster Diver 300M model cleverly reflects the water-based nature of the sailing race and also pays homage to the special edition Diver 300M watch released in 2000 when Omega first served as the official timekeeper for the America's Cup. The 42mm stainless steel case has an overall appearance that doesn't differ significantly from the classic Seamaster 300M dive watch, but subtle details throughout cleverly reference the America's Cup. The unidirectional rotating bezel, made of blue ceramic, features not a dive countdown, but rather a regatta timing scale – including two 5-minute pre-race countdowns and a "START" marker adorned with a regatta flag at the ten-minute mark. The dial is made of matte white ceramic and features a laser-engraved wave pattern. Furthermore, the Omega logo, text, minute markers, and even the edges of the raised hour markers are all treated with blue, resulting in a very clean and refreshing white and blue color scheme. The absence of a date window further enhances the overall clean and symmetrical look of the dial.

The broad hands and hour markers, as well as the circular marker at the 12 o'clock position on the unidirectional rotating bezel, are coated with a large area of white Super-LumiNova luminous material, while the minute hand features a distinct green design for enhanced legibility. The most unique aspect is the design of the hands: the tip of the seconds hand is subtly decorated with the America's Cup trophy motif, and the broad, (skeletonized) minute hand features a blue-to-red gradient design, making it easier to read the time while incorporating the three colors of the America's Cup – white, red, and blue – into the dial.

Turning the watch over, the first thing that catches the eye is the official logo of the 2024 America's Cup sailing race engraved on the transparent sapphire crystal case back, including the "Auld Mug" trophy and the letter "B" representing Barcelona. It also features Omega's unique NAIAD LOCK technology, which ensures the case back is screwed into the correct position, preventing the pattern from shifting. The watch is powered by the Omega 8806 Master Chronometer movement, with both the movement and the entire watch certified as a Master Chronometer by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS). It has a frequency of 25,200 vibrations per hour (3.5 Hz), a power reserve of 55 hours, and is resistant to magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss.
